Waihi Beach & Coastline
Mountain biking in the Waihi Beach and Coastline gem is limited to riding on Waihi Beach or at the Black Hill Mountain Bike trails near Waihi. Black Hill features two trails (Yellow Trail and Pink Trail) which can be easily found by looking for the Yellow and Pink triangular signs on your left near the stile at the end of Clarke Street in Waihi. Also in Waihi you’ve got the start of the Hauraki Rail Trail, an off road cycle path that goes all the way to Te Aroha and Thames.
Yellow Trail is 6km, grade 2 to 3 with a mix of gravel farm track, sweet single track in the pine forest, dirt track on farmland and gravel walking/4WD track. Some of it is flat-stick fast and some is slower and semi-technical, but it's all achievable with a moderate skill level.
Pink Trail is 4.5km, grade 1 to 2 with a similar mix to the Yellow Trail but with all the tricky bits detoured. This trail is suitable for Mum and the kids, especially when it's dry, but be aware that it's a mountainbike track and a step up from the likes of the Hauraki Rail Trail.
