It's all About the Kids
23 November 2015

Being very active myself is only a small part of the overall activity in my life.  Being a mother of three very energetic children means that my life is completely “chocka”, racing the children around from one activity to another.   Out of all the diferent activties that they participate in, I have to say that one of my favourites is watching them take on the challenge of  our local monthly triathlon / duathlon at Port Ohope in Whakatane.

The Eastern Bay of Plenty Triathlon and Multisport club runs this event on the first Sunday of every month and it only costs a few dollars to enter. There are plenty of willing children every month and club members can compete for the series title at the end of each season.  This is a fantastic event which is well run and as much about the participation as the placing. My youngest did her first triathlon here aged two years on her little runner bike.  Opportunities like this give children that sense of accomplishment at finishing with the added bonus of a drink and a small chocolate bar as they cross the finish line.

Creating family memories that include exercise and fun, friendly competition and accomplishment are invaluable for children in what will become the start of a life filled with activity. We are very lucky here in the Eastern Bay of Plenty to have an active community that provides such a diverse range of physical activity for our children.
