About VOT

Discover, explore and connect with Virtually on Track. The Virtually on Track Project is a collaboration of organisations working together to achieve shared objectives. The regional Department of Conservation (DOC) office, Sport Bay of Plenty, local councils and Sport NZ have formed a unique partnership to bring an innovative approach to adventure sport and recreation in the Bay of Plenty. This region is rich with beautiful parks, spaces and reserves; Virtually on Track is designed to connect these natural resources with regular adventure sport and recreation activities and opportunities. It aims to encourage local people to not only utilise and enjoy the local environment, but to learn about it and care for it too.

The project is focused on eight local gem sites including:

  1. Rotorua Eastern Lakes
  2. McLarens Falls & Lower Kaimai
  3. Kawerau & Tarawera
  4. Waihi Beach & Coastline
  5. Whakatane & Ohiwa Harbour
  6. Papamoa Hills Range
  7. Opotiki & Motu
  8. Otanewainuku & Kaharoa Corridor
